Biography

Born in Tenerife, Spain, Borja is a conductor who is specialized in music for wind ensembles, making him one of the first Canarian conductors to be professionally trained in this field. His career has developed in different parts of Europe, especially Spain and the Netherlands. In Zaragoza, he graduated in Orchestral Conducting with Miquel Rodrigo and Borja Quintas and in Choral Conducting with Elena Ruiz. However, his predilection for wind music led him to Maastricht, where he earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in Wind Band Conducting under the tutelage of Jos Zegers.

He is currently the main conductor of the Harmonie Amicitia in Vilt and the Harmonie St. Caecilia in Eygelshoven, both in the Netherlands. He will also take over as main conductor of the Harmonie St. Caecilia in Spekholzerheide in November 2025. Previously, he was main conductor of the Agrupación Musical 'Delicias' in Zaragoza and assistant conductor of the Philharmonie Sittard.

His abilities as a conductor have been recognized in different international competitions, such as the Premio Internacional de Dirección 'Bilbao Musika' in 2024 in Bilbao (Spain), the 2nd Prize in the Concorso Internazionale per Direttori d'Orchestra di Fiati 'Frederick Fennell' in Sicily (Italy) or more recently the 2nd Prize in the Concurso Internacional de Dirección Orquestal 'Reveriano Soutullo' in 2025 in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

As a guest conductor, he has conducted prestigious musical ensembles such as the Banda Municipal de Bilbao, and in the 2025/26 season, he will also conduct the Banda Municipal de Santiago de Compostela.

In addition to his role as a conductor, he dedicates part of his work to the composition of music for wind orchestras. His works have been premiered, awarded, and recorded by high-level wind bands such as 'La Oliva' from Salteras (Sevilla), 'Maestro Tejera', or 'Las Cigarreras', also from Sevilla.

His training as a journalist has also allowed him to approach musicological research, mainly focused on the genre of the processional march.
